As a designer, seeing things done by hand at a brilliantly high level is incredibly inspiring. Last year we released ‘The Crafted Collection’, which was a celebration of all things hand made. From letterpress, to hand drawn type. For someone who has never mastered the art of making things by hand, I’ve always been fascinated by seeing other artists at work.
Since the start of the year I have loosely been teaching myself Calligraphy. As I’ve had no real training or advice from anyone on this, I’ve taken to simply attacking my Pukka Pad with a pen and ink. A fair bit of it is OK, however a lot more of it is bad. Embarrassingly bad in fact. But I’m fine with that, really. I love the fact you can’t just align something to a grid and it look like a masterpiece. You have to work at it, you have to do endless versions until it looks exactly how you want. Like in other aspects of design, it only makes you appreciate how effortless the pro’s make it look.
And speaking of pro’s, heres a mind blowing video showing Oriol Miro at work, enjoy.
